Not if it is well maintained and clean of debris and or toxic chemicals.

I suggest running it uder very cold water, then very hot, then cold again, to kill any bacteria alive in it, then scrub it out. If you do that, you shouldn’t get sick.

Humidifier can be spread throughout the filter with bleach.

Its not the age of the machine, it the cleanliness. What affects a person is the mold that often builds up inside the machine and filters.
Clean the machine with any mold & mildew cleaner, purchase new filters and you should do just fine.
