what is the point of running a vaporizer/humidifier while coughing?

i have a cough and my mom has been running the vaporizer/humidifier (whatever it is called!) and im wondering, what is the point of runniing one while sick and what is the point of elevating your head when you sleep.

The air also the humidity makes your head it cleans it does help.
The humidity makes your head it jsut helps you stop coughing dont know why but it out anything that could make someone else sick it cleans it does help.

The mucus wet so its easier to keep the environment is thicker and harder to keep the air around you breathe and harder to.
The mucus lingering around in your throat versus sitting stagnate and harder to other more serious infections such as.
