how to hide water inside a tank of a humidifier?

Brian asked:

Yup, this is going to be a strange question but i need some creative and non-lethal ideas.
I have a humidifier with a clear 3-gallon water tank. I have a cat who is obsessed with attacking the tank because of the bubbles that float up from the bottom and seeing her own reflection in it. I’d like to do something along the lines of spray painting the outside of the tank or somehow coating the outside of the tank with something that would hide or darken the water inside so my cat cannot see it so well… hopefully that makes sense. I have the humidifer already on a stand but lets face it, cats can jump up onto anything. So i’m hoping someone will have a great idea. Also, whatever i put on the glass it needs to not be able to be pulled off either.. thanks

Will the hermit crab survive?

Just an hour ago, we got home from a boardwalk. We’re on vacation, and I decided to get a hermit crab, along with a kit for $25.

I’ve read up online and have decided to get it the proper care it will need (ie a ten gallon tank, humidifier, heater, dishes, toys, substrate, etc etc).

We’ll be leaving in 4 days.

The temporary home is, at best, tiny. There are some neon pink rocks for bedding, a wet sponge, another shell, and some plastic plants. We’re also using shells we found (and cleaned… ; D) as the food and water dishes. The kit came with food for him too.

We’ve been misting the cage to keep it humid, and I’ve taken the small secondary lid off the top and replaced it with a wet rag for more humidity. We’re gonna keep him outside right now, and inside at night (outside would be an enclosed, humid, hot, back porch).

The cage is more of a plastic, tiny, box. There’s holes at the top for air.

Will he survive until we can get him home (transportation will be through car)?
By the way, we own two cats at home.

I wanna give this little guy as much love and attention as we give our cats.

What are your thoughts on leaving a couple of gallons of water in the bathtub for moister vs a humidifier?

Chi Guy asked:

Someone recently suggested doing so as an alternative to using a humidifier and draining the excess every morning before leaving the house.

Your thoughts?
RedBad M (below) You are correct. What helps me is my master bedroom has an attached bathroom.

I could experiment on two seperate nights but I do have a great humidifier that works extremely well and quickly. Decisions, decisions. Thx for the input.

American Green Tree Frog and Geicko question?

Mr L asked:

Ok so I found a frog in my house the other day and decided hey i would like to keep him… So in a 10 gallon tank he went with some nice Spanish moss and some tree branches and a humidifier and the whole nine yards. I named him Ceasar. Well i went to go get some crickets for Ceasar at the local pet store and they gave me a box with a small hole in it to poke and put in his terrarium. Long story short i have one small tree frog and about 30 crickets in a small tank. Then after reading the vitamin powder instructions it said not to leave the crickets in there over night because they could harm your pet. So because of all the moss in there it is impossible to remove all the crickets so i went outside and caught two gecko’s to help Ceasar with the crickets. So my question is can gecko’s and tree frogs live alright together??? Is Ceasar in any danger?

How much does one gallon of water raise relative humidity?

Filed under: Gallon Humidifier — Tags: , — GH Blogger @ 2:07 am
rsvanblo asked:

I’ve googled the answer to this without any luck. I turned on my humidifier since the air is really dry. It holds one gallon of water. After the humidifier has vaporized the entire gallon of water into the air, how much does the relative humidity rise? Assume the temperature is 68 degrees F and the room size is 12 ft by 12 ft by 8 ft, also that all vapor from the humidifier does not escape the room. If the room starts at say 25% relative humidity, what relative humidity would the gallon of water raise it to?

How do I clean my humidifier?

malwilhist asked:

I recently bought a cool mist humidifier. It smells slightly musty and am wondering how to clean it. The back of the box says to use vinegar weekly. Do I fill the entire 2 gallon humidifier and let it run, stinking up my entire house? Do I wipe down the insides? Any other ideas?
