Avery A asked:

I just bought a ball python from petco, might i add for only 172.00 dollars i got a snake (30$) and a snake kit with 20 gallon tank, two heat lamps, bedding, and a thermometer (129$). But thats beside the fact. i had a ball python before but it died of nemonia. i waited a little while and decided to try again this time with everything i need. i supposedly need to keep and avg temp of 78+ and a humidity at 80+. but today the humidity level dropped to 40%. i started to freak. i need to either get a humidifier or come up with a better strategy. might i also add, i got a screen top. Your assistance would be muchly appreciated.

Can Propane Gas affect the health and growth of plants?

Katie asked:

I have several plants in my kitchen. Most are doing poorly while the rest are doing fair. My kitchen has south and west facing windows and I supplement them with several plant-style floriscent blubs….running 16 hours….as well. I have two humidifiers running to keep the kitchen at 65% humidity because the furnace is constantly running. I live in the upper midwest and it’s winter here now. I also have a gas stove. Now many of the plants have poor growth habits. Stunted, misshapen and slow growth. Some even have dropped new leaves. I keep them well watered….not over watered….and at normal house temps….75-80….as well as ferderized on a weekly basis at 1/4 tsp to 1 gallon. Ortho brand. Given all this info can someone tell what I’m doing wrong?
The reason I question the affects of gas on plants is that every now and again I get a wiff of gas and the stove is probably from the late 70’s. I rent, btw. Now I understand that each house can have it’s own micro-climate and I’m wondering if mine has changed in the last 10 years. I use to be able to growth anything and everything including violets and orchids but now those don’t seem to even last a month. I probably also use more chemicals now then I did 10 years ago. I try to stick to mostly low-light plants but even they at times have failed me and I use wick-watering method on many of the plants.

Hermit Crab Habitats- I Don’t have room for a big tank?

R14 asked:

I just purchased 2 hermit crabs.

I currently have them in one of those small wire cages.

I don’t have room for a 10 gallon tank.

What else can I use that is roomy enough to them a good habitat and still be able to use a heater and humidifier if necessary?

Would you buy a drum humidifier or bypass for your furnace?

Can’t decide which to install. Older drum needs cleaning more, but I’m told newer bypass ones waste up to 5 gallons of water a day. What would you install?

Will the hermit crab survive?

cbroam asked:

Just an hour ago, we got home from a boardwalk. We’re on vacation, and I decided to get a hermit crab, along with a kit for $25.

I’ve read up online and have decided to get it the proper care it will need (ie a ten gallon tank, humidifier, heater, dishes, toys, substrate, etc etc).

We’ll be leaving in 4 days.

The temporary home is, at best, tiny. There are some neon pink rocks for bedding, a wet sponge, another shell, and some plastic plants. We’re also using shells we found (and cleaned… ; D) as the food and water dishes. The kit came with food for him too.

We’ve been misting the cage to keep it humid, and I’ve taken the small secondary lid off the top and replaced it with a wet rag for more humidity. We’re gonna keep him outside right now, and inside at night (outside would be an enclosed, humid, hot, back porch).

The cage is more of a plastic, tiny, box. There’s holes at the top for air.

Will he survive until we can get him home (transportation will be through car)?
By the way, we own two cats at home.

I wanna give this little guy as much love and attention as we give our cats.
