The basics for a tree frog tank set up?

heyheychris10 asked:

Not sure what tree frog yet, so I am preparing the basics for any type. Here is what I have so far…

50 gallon aquarium, no lid…should I get glass or screen?
A thermometer and Hydrometer
Frog Moss
15 good sized stacking rocks
Drift Wood

I know I will need some source of lighting. Will the light be the one providing the humidity to my tank? I know I will need to spray it with a water bottle, but a humidifier is unnecessary…correct?

I was wondering if I could have a half land base, and then a filtered pool at the other end with a few fish. If I were to do that, what type of filter should I set up?

I want to have LIVE plants. I know I do not have many options, but I would like to have some live plants. I do not care about having a frog to hold or play with…I have a dog for that. This is for observatory purposes so I would like it to be a terrarium type thing.

THANKYOU SO MUCH IF YOU ANSWER!

R14 asked:

I just purchased 2 hermit crabs.

I currently have them in one of those small wire cages.

I don’t have room for a 10 gallon tank.

What else can I use that is roomy enough to them a good habitat and still be able to use a heater and humidifier if necessary?

Console humidifiers?

looking4answers asked:

If we get a 14 gallon 2900 sq ft console humidifier, will it work well if we actually have 2 levels, 900 sq ft on one and 900 sq ft on the other?
If yes, would it be better to place the humidifier on the upper or lower level or does that depend on what kind of humidifier it is…

Would tea kettles on wood burning stove act the same as a humidifier in our house?

Louie47 asked:

We have wood burning stove, have a couple of tea kettles on it and add about 3 gallons per day, how does this compare to a humidifier adding water into the atmosphere of the house. Especially if we only added 3 gallons to the humidifier

Bought humidifier.humidity almost always 55% and higher.what’s going on?

Andy Andrews asked:

We just bought an 8 gallon output Kenmore humidifer from Sears. The second we turn the furnace on, the throat starts to hurt and we wake up feeling awful in the morning. I thought the humidifer would fix the problem, however the humidifier ALWAYS states that the humidity in the room/area is 55% or higher. I woke up this morning with my throat killing (I’m not sick), however it was at 63%. Since it is so high, the thing NEVER comes on unless I force it to stay on. I’ve emptied the water every night b/c I didn’t want mold to start forming. Does it sound like the unit is measuring the humidity wrong? We live in Nashville and can’t imagine the 63% humidity in the house when the furnace is on. The sensor is 4″ from the unit, on the pwr cord. Should I buy another thing (whatever they are called) to check the humidity level, or should I just return it for another unit/model? I hate to buy things I don’t really need so if it sounds obviously wrong, I will just return the unit. Thank
Thanks for the replies…and to confirm. It states 55% and higher before I even have the unit on. I realize I’m defeating the purpose if I take the water out, but since it never kicks on, I don’t want the water to mold. I guess I’ll kick it on tonight and see how it goes. If the mirrors are covered, I know I have a problem. I’m going to see if I can find a hygrometer somewhere cheap…maybe Radioshack?
Thanks again…I’m doubting the reading is correct as well. I just got home and filled it back up and turned it to “always on” to see if it feels better in here later on…

How to lower indoor humidity?

anunaki7777 asked:

The relative humidity % in my new apartment consistently measures between 60 and 70 %.

I purchased a de-humidifier which pumps about 2 gallons of water out of the place every night.

Despite this, the relative humidity stays about 60%, which I’ve been told is very unhealthy.

Is there anything I can demand my apartment management do?

Is there anyway to remedy the high humidity? Could it be that the place is poorly sealed? (its 30 years old)
Any suggestions would be appreciated

What are your thoughts on leaving a couple of gallons of water in the bathtub for moister vs a humidifier?

Chi Guy asked:

Someone recently suggested doing so as an alternative to using a humidifier and draining the excess every morning before leaving the house.

Your thoughts?
Angel (below) You are correct but allow me to add some detyails.

I am considering this just for my master bedroom, not the entire house. I can close the door to my bedroom which has an attached master bathroom.

Please add more to your response with this in mind and thanks.
