If we get a 14 gallon 2900 sq ft console humidifier, will it work well if we actually have 2 levels, 900 sq ft on one and 900 sq ft on the other?
If yes, would it be better to place the humidifier on the upper or lower level or does that depend on what kind of humidifier it is…

I have a cool mist humidifier which holds about a gallon of water and i was just curious to know if its a good idea to put about a cap full of bleach mixd in with the water to sanitize the air in the room.ive actually already done this and it definately makes the room smell fresher with no bleach smell and no irritation. So wat you all think?

We have wood burning stove, have a couple of tea kettles on it and add about 3 gallons per day, how does this compare to a humidifier adding water into the atmosphere of the house. Especially if we only added 3 gallons to the humidifier

Andy Andrews asked:
We just bought an 8 gallon output Kenmore humidifer from Sears. The second we turn the furnace on, the throat starts to hurt and we wake up feeling awful in the morning. I thought the humidifer would fix the problem, however the humidifier ALWAYS states that the humidity in the room/area is 55% or higher. I woke up this morning with my throat killing (I’m not sick), however it was at 63%. Since it is so high, the thing NEVER comes on unless I force it to stay on. I’ve emptied the water every night b/c I didn’t want mold to start forming. Does it sound like the unit is measuring the humidity wrong? We live in Nashville and can’t imagine the 63% humidity in the house when the furnace is on. The sensor is 4″ from the unit, on the pwr cord. Should I buy another thing (whatever they are called) to check the humidity level, or should I just return it for another unit/model? I hate to buy things I don’t really need so if it sounds obviously wrong, I will just return the unit. Thank
Thanks for the replies…and to confirm. It states 55% and higher before I even have the unit on. I realize I’m defeating the purpose if I take the water out, but since it never kicks on, I don’t want the water to mold. I guess I’ll kick it on tonight and see how it goes. If the mirrors are covered, I know I have a problem. I’m going to see if I can find a hygrometer somewhere cheap…maybe Radioshack?
Thanks again…I’m doubting the reading is correct as well. I just got home and filled it back up and turned it to “always on” to see if it feels better in here later on…
