Raising the humidity of a room without a humidifier?

Kal-El asked:

Does anybody know of any ways to keep a bedroom from getting too dry in the winter time? We have used a humidifier, but had a problem with mold that began to grow on the windows and it created a musty odor in the room. I have heard of a pie pan next to the heat vent/register, but does anybody else have any suggestions or good tricks that they use?
Thanks!!
I’m looking for something that will still create moisture, just not as much as the humidifier (for the member who asked). Even if I have it on low, the windows get “rain drops” on them and mold forms on the little criss-crossy things. Worried about what it could be doing to the carpet. As soon as we stopped using it, the excessive moisture problem was controlled, but our throats became sore and our noses caked with hard snot. There was your answer in a nutshell :)

Has anyone ever done this? I don’t want to ruin my humidifier (or the filter) but I feel like it would be nice to add a pleasant smell.

I know that if you run a shower while you are smoking weed the negative ions released from the water get rid of the marijuana smokes smell… I was wondering if you ran a vaporizer/humidifier while you were smoking if it would get get rid of the smell?

Is it important to change the filter on a humidifier? Would it be better to shut it off than let it keep runni

My humidifier says I shud change the filter, via the little arrow key on the primitive fan gizmo. My cousin-in-law said if I kept it running, it would make me “REALLY sick” (I’m already quite sick). What’s the real deal?

I’m 38wks prego. and i want to buy a vicks humidifier, some saline nose drops, and some vitamin c to see if my cold can get better. Do you think all that is safe for my baby? Because I can not take the pain anymore everytime I cough it feels like one of my ribs is going to break from the baby being only on one side. So what should I do?

Will using a humidifier make me dependant on it?

Quake22 asked:

I am thinking about getting a humidifer because I have sinus problems and get bloddy noses in the winter. However, I stay at hotels 2 nights a week because I travel a lot for work and would not have access to a humidifier. Would I be better off not using the humidifier at all so I can build up a tolerance to the dry air? Or, will using the humidifier at home 5 nights be not make my problems worse the other 2 nights?

Do I absolutely need a humidifier for this winter cold we’re experiencing?

Cherry Blossom asked:

I noticed my 3 month ol daughter doesn’t have a cold or anything, but at night her breathing sounds ‘dry’. It is like her nasal passages are dry and not moist. And I am kind of experiencing the same thing, and it leads to a sore throat in the morning.

Does anyone here use a humidifier?

How do I turn on or adjust a american standard humidifier?

alpineweissbimmer asked:

I recently got a new american standard humidifier, and there are no knobs, switches, or controls at all, just the knob to switch it from summer to winter. It’s very similar to this one http://www.americanstandardair.com/HomeOwner/Products/Humidifiers/SmallBypass.aspx

Thanks in advance.

Why is a cool mist humidifier better for croup than a warm mist humidifier?

Simply Exhausted asked:

My kids have bronchitis and croup and the dr. recommended we use one. I was just curious why a warm mist humidifier wouldn’t work.
