How can I rejuvinate the foam pad in my revolving drum furnace humidifier?

Stephen L asked:

I have a revolving drum furnace humidifier that puts moisture in the air by evapoating water from a rotating foam drum (about 6″ diamater, 8″ long). As the water evaporates, mineral deposits (hard white granules) from my water build up on the drum (I expect mostly silicates, but don’t really know). Is there something I could soak the foam in that would desolve the residue?

Will furnace humidifier grow mold?

I am planning to install a furnace humidifier soon. My son has asthma and is very sensitive to dry air. One concern I have is whether the furnace humidifier will grow mold inside the furnace, the humidifier itself or grow mold inside the house. I know that mold is not good for the people with asthma either. I hope that someone with a furnace humidifer can tell me his expereince. Much appreciated. Thanks.

Shaun asked:

I just purchased a new rental furnace and humidifier but since they installed it today there is water constantly coming out of the drain
it does this even when it is off
it is a generalAire model 1042LH flow throuhg bypass humidifier
I figured it out ..the problem was that the humidistat was set to high therefore keeping the solenoid valve open and keeping constant flow of water going

If you have a furnace humidifier do you need a dehumidifier?

We moved into a newer home and it was built with a furnace humidifier which I’m not even sure how to use (this is our first house) but some of the basement cement blocks are sweating, it feels dry but only a few of the blocks look wet. Do I need a dehumidifier as well??

We are moving into a new house (2600 sf) with hardwood floors and a humidifier was recommended by the builder. His estimate was $1500. Does that sound high?

Can anyone recommend a good whole house humidifier for my apartment?

I can’t do a furnace mount unit because it’s not my furnace. I need a box humidifier and I need one for a 900 sq ft apartment. The little one that holds a gallon is useless. Any suggestions?
