Raising the humidity of a room without a humidifier?

Does anybody know of any ways to keep a bedroom from getting too dry in the winter time? We have used a humidifier, but had a problem with mold that began to grow on the windows and it created a musty odor in the room. I have heard of a pie pan next to the heat vent/register, but does anybody else have any suggestions or good tricks that they use?
Thanks!!
I’m looking for something that will still create moisture, just not as much as the humidifier (for the member who asked). Even if I have it on low, the windows get “rain drops” on them and mold forms on the little criss-crossy things. Worried about what it could be doing to the carpet. As soon as we stopped using it, the excessive moisture problem was controlled, but our throats became sore and our noses caked with hard snot. There was your answer in a nutshell :)

Will using a humidifier make me dependant on it?

I am thinking about getting a humidifer because I have sinus problems and get bloddy noses in the winter. However, I stay at hotels 2 nights a week because I travel a lot for work and would not have access to a humidifier. Would I be better off not using the humidifier at all so I can build up a tolerance to the dry air? Or, will using the humidifier at home 5 nights be not make my problems worse the other 2 nights?
