Gallon Humidifier

I recently purchased a humidifier that says it can humidify enough sq. ft. to cover my whole house. I know that heat rises, so my downstairs central heater unit does more work than my upstairs unit. What I don’t know, though, is the best place to put the humidifier. Will the moisture from the humidifier rise with the warm air or will it sink, given the greater weight of the moisture cause it to sink?

It is an open floor plan, so the air circulates really well between the floors.

If we get a 14 gallon 2900 sq ft console humidifier, will it work well if we actually have 2 levels, 900 sq ft on one and 900 sq ft on the other?
If yes, would it be better to place the humidifier on the upper or lower level or does that depend on what kind of humidifier it is…
